My friend Natalie, who makes beautiful quilts, convinced me that I could make one. Justin loves quilts so I thought I would make him a BSU one for his birthday. So, with her help and another friend Tricia who would help us with measurements when needed, I set out to make this quilt. Since it was for his birthday, it would need to be a surprise so I could only work on it when he was out of town. This meant, it did not get worked on often enough even though he did go out of town quite a bit. His birthday is May 6th. By May 29th, this is where I was at.

I had completed the main top part. Well, at least I thought I had until Natalie showed me that I had sewn one of the strips upside down. All of the horse heads faced one direction except for the top one. Whoops. We did a quick fix and just undid one side and turned it around. This would change the pattern a little. The very type A everything has to be straight and matching me wanted to take more apart so it would be exactly the same but I let her convince me that it would still look great and Justin would not notice. She was right. Since I missed his birthday, it would have to be for Father's Day. The next step was putting on the border around the main part. I was able to finish this on June 22nd.

Of course, since Father's Day was June 17th, this would now have to be for our Anniversary. That's okay. That makes sense. It is on October 24th. It would be right during college football season and maybe even getting cool enough to have a blanket out (if we were actually in Boise). As of October 19th, Tricia has quilted it with her machine (it was worth paying her to do that part!) and it really looke beautiful!
Front on top and the back on the bottom
We were getting close! Justin went out of town for a trip so I hurried and got the rest done. As of October 21st, the binding was complete! This is the finished product.
Embroidered on the back.
Washed, folded and ready to give.
It was funny because Justin told me the night before that he wished his mom would make him another quilt. His mom makes beautiful quilts, all by hand. This is not his mom's but I think it is pretty darn good. He was very suprised and loved it! It meant a lot to him that I would take the time to make it, especially since I don't do a whole lot of sewing.
